  • Question about Epilepsy

I take 2000mg of Epilim & 1000mg of Keppra a day to treat my complex partial seizures. Just want to know is this to much medication to treat this type of epilepsy as one specialist I saw said it is & the other I saw said it's not?

It depends on individual circumstances. General principles of epilepsy management dictate starting with monotherapy at the minimum effective dose and increasing one drug to maximum tolerated dose prior to switching to an alternative therapy. I would consider introducting a second agent if a single agent is ineffective in treating seizures effectively. Some people have difficult to control epilepsy and need more than one drug. However choice of 1gm of Keppra once a day but in addition to Epilim is an unusual combination for complex partial seizures, unless Keppra was add on. Epilim is only a moderate dose and there is certainly a scope to increase it but it is perhaps not my first preference in complex partial seizures.
