Dear Lynne
Thank you for your question. If Upper eyelids are obstucting vision and this is determined by your surgeon in a consultation then depending on your Private Health insurance policy you are entitled to some benefits. First step is a consultation so your eyelids and its excess skin is assessed then a detailed quote will be given to you which informs you of medicare and Health Fund rebate you will receive and any out of pockets costs. Hope that helped.

Dear Lynne

Thank you for your query. If you have excess upper eyelid skin, then your visual field may certainly be affected. This is called detmatochalasia and there is a Medicare item number for this. This means that you will be entitled to a Medicare rebate and also health fund rebate. It also means that, if your procedure is performed in hospital, then your fund will routinely cover your hospital fees (depending on your level of cover). There are other causes of visual field obstruction and this will be assessed at the time of your consultation. Sometime the upper eyelid may have a weak muscle and this is called ptosis. There is also an item number for ptosis repair.
I hope this assists with your Enquiry. My staff will also be happy to address any other questions that you may have regarding this. Feel free to reach our clinic if you require any further clarification.

Kind regards
Dr Chaithan Reddy
