  • Question about ERCP

I had an ERCP last Friday that failed & was abandoned after 45 min after protracted efforts to cannulate. Needle knife cutdown was performed. The reason: " tissues too edematous to adequately cut onto the duct. I had breast cancer last year that had gone into the lymphnodes. Do I have to worry?

No. ERCP is a complex therapeutic procedure and even in the best hands there will be a small failure rate. Often 2nd attempt is successful or referring to a different endoscopist.

  • I have a small flat polyp and have just started warfarin and is somewhat stabilized being in the range of 2.8. What is the procedure if I have to have the polyp removed to go off warfarin for the operation?

It depends on the size of the polyp. If it’s very small, less than 5 mm, can be done on warfarin. Otherwise the warfarin will need to be stopped for 5 days before the procedure. Some people may need to be on clexane while off warfarin.
