  • Question about Somnambulism

would a person under intense amounts of stress who experienced short term insanity be at risk of harming somebody in a somnambulistic state?

Ah, how difficult for you! I wonder whether the problem lies in your son or in the relationship between you (and others) and your son. Likely both contribute to the problem. Some individuals are, by nature, a bit more reactive and given to anger. Some have become that way by allowing certain thinking and behaving habits to develop. Thinking habits sometimes promote angry feelings and actions. Other people develop the problem in the context of important relationships in which other people's responses to angry behaviour actually reinforce the angry behaviour. That is, angry behaviour, "works" in helping the person get them what they want. To start with it would be useful to find a psychologist who can help you formulate the problem. By formulate, I mean work out what predisposes your son to his behaviour, what precipitates it, what perpetuates it (keeps it going) and what reduces the likelihood of it happening. Once you know what drives the behaviour a treatment can be developed.

  • DID or schizophrenia?

I am diagnosed undifferentiated schizophrenia because I hear voices. The voices are always in my head (not outside). One of the voices is called Paul, and always tries to take over with disastrous consequences. I am homicidal a lot, but not paranoid. Please help I am at loss

Thank you for this question. It would be interesting to know a bit more about the circumstances of your diagnosis, as hearing voices is only one of several symptoms that must be present for a diagnosis of schizophrenia to be made. Other conditions that can involve hearing voices include Dissociative Identity Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, Complex PTSD (which is not included in the DSM classification system), and any of diagnoses that involve psychosis: this includes schizoaffective disorder and substance-induced psychosis. It is important to be aware that 10% of the non-clinical population also hears voices. Yes, you can hear voices but not meet diagnostic criteria for any mental health condition. But you described something more than simply a voice. "Paul" sounds like a motivational state tied to emotion rather than an simple auditory hallucination. I recommend you find a clinician who is skilled in discriminating between the trauma syndromes and psychotic syndromes.
