Yes. A common reason for prescribing Provera is to control heavy periods. This requires assessment by ultrasound and possibly endometrial biopsy before proceeding. It is really only effective for cyclical control of heavy bleeding due to irregular ovulation, for other reasons and for resistant cases there are better options. It does not change the underlying cause.
